Spaniard brings soft drink to the bush

Spaniard Alejandro (Andrew) Poncio Torrent arrived in Morawa in the mid 1950s, bringing a taste of Europe to the Mid West farming township. Andy, as he became known locally, set up a store, cafe, roadhouse and cool drink factory. He raised the ire of locals for locating the roadhouse in town, rather than at its entrance. But he was known for his “stubborn nature” and persisted in building the roadhouse where it continues to stand today.
