18 carat gold brooch

Accessory
Westonia's first nugget

In 1910, whilst prospecting and sandalwood cutting, Alfred David Weston found the gold nugget on this brooch. The nugget was the first of three he found in the area, and he had all three nuggets set into three pieces of jewellery. This brooch was made for his daughter Marjorie. The three bars in the brooch represent Alfred, Kathleen his wife, and Marjorie. Westonia was officially named after Weston in June 1914.
