"The Rabbit Proof Fence Murders", by Jo Millington

Artwork
Truth is stranger than fiction

This is one painting in a series of acrylic works about a serial killer on the Rabbit Proof Fence. In 1933, John Thomas Smith, aka Snowy Rowles, killed three people along the rabbit proof fence. Rowles got the inspiration from The Sands of Windee, an Arthur Upfield murder mystery novel. Rowles and Upfield met and became friends when they were both working on the Rabbit Proof Fence. Rowles burnt the corpses of his victims in two separate fires.
