Mother of all pearls

Universally beguiling, pearls, the rare, lustrous gems made by a living organism, are the subject of many legends that associate the iridescent orbs with the moon, lightning, rain and rainbows, and to virtues of purity and perfection. In the market place, they are assessed by the five virtues of lustre, complexion, shape, size, and colour. At 22.24mm in diameter, round and with intense lustre, and a flawless surface, this is the world's largest fine-quality round pearl. It was grown on the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm north of Broome and has spent the last few years being showcased around the world.
