On the foreshore of Roebuck Bay

In the 1980s, as Broome was becoming a popular ‘beach destination' for tourists, the old pearling heritage of Broome was slowly disappearing. Nyamba Buru Yawuru decided to create a walking trail from Streeters Jetty in Chinatown to the site of the ‘Old Jetty’ at Town Beach and turn the gaze back to the foreshore of Roebuck Bay and the pearling story of Broome. With the Jetty to Jetty App, visitors can listen to storytellers as they reveal the underlying Yawuru story and cultural values of the bay and remember the old pearling days that were formative of their lives in Broome. Jirljirrgun, a traditional camping ground and midden where the old Goodshed and tramway were located, is one of the 13 sites on the trail.
