Six seasons, by Amanda Lee, Tracey Mulardy, Cissy Djiagween, Maxine Charlie, Lorraine Hunter and Martha Lee
Yawuru seasons
These artworks were a highlight of the Bugarrigarra Nyurdany (because of the Dreaming) exhibition, created by Nagula Jarndu artists based in Broome. Representing the six Yawuru seasons and celebrating their saltwater country, the colourful overlay of block prints and stitching depict the key features of each season, such as yingaliwali (bluebone) in Man-gala (the wet); yari (whale) and gumanyba (7 sisters constellation) in Barrgana (the cold); and the many birrgabirrga (shellfish) in Laja (the hot season).
