Painting in glass

Warlayirti Artists specialise in fine art paintings, as well as prints, silk scarf dyeing, multimedia and artefacts. In the late 1990s, following techniques that originated in Warburton, they began creating works in glass. As if the individual colours and styles of the Balgo artists were not enough, their transposition into glass creates even more vivid and beautiful colours. A wonderful example of cross-cultural synthesis. This piece represents Christine's mother's Country in the Great Sandy Desert and was commissioned for the Desert River Sea project at the Art Gallery of WA.
