Jetty tools

Tools

“Where’s my bottom swage?” Not a question that’s heard widely now, but this tool and others on display here were essential for the blacksmiths who worked on the foreshore. Now it is hard to imagine this picturesque location as a site of smoke and steam, clanging tools, grease and oil and hard physical work. For over a hundred years the jetty was at the centre of trade for the region. These tools were used by the teams of workers who were needed to maintain the jetty, the railway and to load and unload the ships.
