“I Belong” by Michael Gabriel Francas

Artwork
I belong

This intriguing abstract oil painting on wood is by Michael Francas, a Western Australian artist who is influenced by the contrasting ideas of exile and belonging. His interests are inspired by his own father’s experiences as a refugee and migrant from Lithuania. This painting won the 2018 City of Busselton Art Award, an annual $10,000 prize for Western Australian contemporary artists. As an acquisitive award, the winning artwork becomes part of the City of Busselton Art Collection, building a significant record of contemporary art within this State.
