Central Greenough - Cafe and Historic Settlement

Step back in time

Stroll through the historic buildings of Central Greenough, close your eyes, and imagine the settlement as it once was, bustling with school children, shop keepers, policemen, magistrates, school teachers, priests and nuns. The administrative center formed in the 1860s as the hub of a once thriving agricultural community. But as farms floundered thanks to drought and flood the population of the region plummeted and the settlement was largely abandoned. Today National Trust seeks to preserve the settlement’s cultural heritage and encourage visitors to explore the buildings to imagine life here as it once was. Be sure to visit the gift shop and have a cuppa at the cafe to ponder the area’s history.
