Holy Water

Religious artefact
Blessed Waters

What souls would have been blessed by holy water from this bottle? Who sought to ward off evil or beg protection with its sacred flow? And what illnesses demanded the touch of its healing balm? While we can never know the exact answers, we do know the bottle was part of a travelling altar that you’ll find in the presbytery that housed the local priest for 30 years. The presbytery was constructed in 1900 and was also a short-term sanctuary for the famed architect priest Monsignor John Hawes, who was the last priest to stay here before the building was transformed into a boarding house for older boys attending the nearby Convent School.
