Wiring from Skylab
Pieces of Skylab, a United States space station, were strewn over a largely unpopulated area of Western Australia, from Balladonia to Esperance. NASA had planned for Skylab to function as a space station with changeover crew to operate it. In 1974, when a crew left Skylab, it was believed the station would stay in orbit for another 9 years. However, the space station did not have thrusters to project it further out into orbit. When stronger than usual solar activity created more oxygen in the earth's atmosphere, this caused more drag on Skylab and prompted it toward re-entry. The rest, as they say, is history.
