Waiste Band Artefacts
Weapon holding waiste bands
As the people of Northam gathered in excitement at the upcoming opening of Bilya Koort Boodja, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people began to fashion tools in the ways of Aboriginal ancestors, for display. Using a mixture of modern and traditional methods, their work not only created artifacts which make for beautiful display items, but also helped keep Ballardong culture and creativity alive as younger generations learned the knowledge of their Elders. Among the many creations were these fur-lined waist bands. Traditionally, Aboriginal men would fasten such bands around their waist to tie weapons to their hips.
