Red Cross archive of the fallen
Lives lost
During the First World War, women in Australia's Red Cross branches raised money and made comforts to support the men who were fighting. In Kalgoorlie, at the conclusion of the war, the ladies gathered over 200 photographs of servicemen who were killed in action and arranged them into a pictorial honour roll, so that their sacrifice would never be forgotten. The honour roll contains personal details about each soldier, including a hand-drawn colour patch, indicating which unit each belonged to: (L-R) the 44th Battalion, 51st Battalion and 11th Battalion.
