Crucible and cupel

Equipment
Cupellation

These crucibles and cupels were used in the gold testing process, which involves very high temperatures and is called, cupellation. Ore samples with gold are crushed and mixed with other metals to encourage melting. These metals are known as fluxing agents. The sample is then placed in a furnace to heat. Through this process, ‘buttons’ of gold are created.
