Oliver 88 Row-Crop tractor
Innovative tractors engineered from keen observation
This Oliver 88 tractor was owned by local farmer Ted Tyson. It is different to the tractors which were sold through Butler's Garage. Manufacturer James Oliver emigrated to the USA from Scotland aged 11 and went to work the next year when his father died. After a multitude of jobs he bought shares in a foundry and began improving farm machines. In 1930, the Oliver Corporation built innovative 4-cylinder tractors. In 1948 a new series 66, 77 and this 88 were introduced, with both petrol and diesel options. This one was used by the Tyson family at Jitarning and was restored by Ted in his later years.
