Man and two snakes, by Curtis Taylor

Artwork
Traditional story

Curtis Taylor is an internationally recognised Martu artist who comfortably walks in two worlds. Using a diverse range of media, from painting to animated films, he interprets his culture and life in a contemporary world. He is respected by his elders who foster his talents. In this sculpture he interprets a well-known tale. Curtis has carved the Jurrkurpa story of the man and two snakes into this old, hollow tree trunk, scorched the exterior and painted parts of it with traditional ochres.
