Dog Tag
The Dog Act 1883 required that owners register their dogs with their local Road Board. This rare metal dog tag was issued by the Nelson Road Board in 1907. This was the name of the district which was gazetted in 1887 and renamed the Bridgetown Road Board district in 1917. Aboriginal people were exempt from registering their dogs, however, if they had more dogs than people in their group, the authorities could take and kill the extra dogs. No doubt this did not help the relationship between the Aboriginal people and the authorities.
