Aerial Photograph of Busselton from 1941
Taken in 1941 from a World War II Royal Australian Air Force bomber, this aerial view is a fascinating study of the organic lines of nature against the straight grid of the Busselton townsite. Comprising seven photographs which have been stitched together to make a composite image, it was probably taken by a professional photographer experienced in topographic survey photography. It was taken the same year that the RAAF established a base in Busselton to protect the South West coast from enemy ships. The ruins of the base are just visible today, and the medical hut from the base has been relocated to the Old Butter Factory Museum where it houses air force and World War II memorabilia.
