1903 Marshall Traction Engine
This historic engine was the first piece of machinery bought and restored by Gary Brookes. It was built at the Britannia Iron Works in Gainsborough, England, for the Robison Bros company of Melbourne and arrived in Australia in 1904. Only three engines of this model ever left England, and it is thought that this is the only one of its kind left in the world. In its lifetime it has carted ore in Broken Hill, survived a serious accident, powered a sawmill, hauled wood and pumped water to irrigate tobacco growing. Purchased by the Brookes in 1989, it was re-named Mary Alice and is now one of the Heritage Park’s treasures.
