Football Memorabilia
Sport brings people together in country towns, as well as creating fierce rivalries! These items of football memorabilia reflect different eras of the game of football in the Greenbushes area. One of Western Australia’s most famous footballers, Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer, has an interesting connection to Greenbushes. As a boy, Farmer lived at Sister Kate’s Home for Children and was among 50 girls and boys who were evacuated from Perth to Greenbushes during World War II. Sister Kate had bought the old Duke of York Hotel, and this is where the children lived for six years. Farmer always had fond memories of his years in Greenbushes and officially opened the Discovery Centre in 1998.
