Sheep tags
Local farmers donated these sheep tags for use in the shearing display. In the exhibition you will find out about aspects of the demanding history of farming and settlement. There are stories recorded of Noongar people standing outside the Reserve waiting to be picked up for work on local farms or travelling for work. “We’d go from farm to farm, … by horse and cart doing the work. Whoever had work – they’d give us a contract – so much for the job. We had to work in the paddock like the men. Burning up, stick picking, poison grubbing – all the jobs,” Elvis Eades Riley, Kojonup & Boyup Brook, talking about his childhood in the 1950s.
