General store desk
Rewind back to around 1910 and you could find Pinjarra businessman William Taylor sitting at this desk running the affairs of his shop, William Taylor’s General Store. He had previously worked as a general trader for the railway construction camps and, in Pinjarra, bought two blocks of land next to the Exchange Hotel to open his own shop. Some years later the shop burned down but Taylor rallied and rebuilt the premises. In the 1920s he installed kerbside petrol pumps to further expand his business. He later passed the business onto his children who continued to operate it for generations. The shop Taylor built remains on George Street Pinjarra today.
