Replica Facial Plaster Cast

Military

Many soldiers suffered terrible facial injuries on the battlefield and, if they survived, endured shocking facial disfigurement. Surgeons and their medical teams were assisted by sculptors, photographers and artists in the process of working out how to repair a man’s face. This plaster cast of Private Charles Pritchard’s face helped his surgeon Dr Harold Gillies, and the medical team, assess the next step forward. This object is a replica of the original held by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
