Beaded Snake

Craft

This stunning snake was made by an Ottoman prisoner-of-war during World War I. The men would crochet glass beads to make snakes, as well as lizards, bags, purses and jewellery, which they would sell. This item is part of the significant Ellam-Innes Collection which was put together by Allan and Rae Ellam, who collected memorabilia from World War I, and who subsequently donated it to the Princess Royal Fortress Military Museum.
