Silver teapot

Every item in this historic house has an intriguing history, and this silver teapot is no exception. Before coming to the fledgling colony, Sir Richard Spencer, who built this house, was a British Naval Lieutenant based on the Mediterranean island of Malta. This teapot was given to him by the Maltese community in gratitude for his rescue of about 40 Maltese people from Algeria, where they had been imprisoned for 15 years. The teapot was made by Saverio Cannataci, a silversmith of considerable renown. A very special item indeed.
