Lenore
“Aunty Lenny was a lady in the real sense of the word. She was such an elegant, quietly spoken woman, who always looked immaculate” says Judy McKechnie, the Collection’s curator, as she remembers her Aunt Lenore, who wore this dress at her wedding in 1939. One of six daughters, Lenore always stood as tall and straight as she did on her wedding day. This cream slim-line dress, with a soft cowl neck, plaited satin sash and tapered sleeves was surely a statement in elegance in 1939. The embroidery on her veil was done by nuns, and Lenore carried a Church of England bible in her hands, rather than a bouquet.
