Fire Engine
This lovingly restored fire engine once raced through the streets of Maylands in the 1930s, en route to the latest fire. It was built for the WA Fire Brigade in 1933 and was stationed at Maylands for most of its working life, until the early 1960s. The engine lay largely forgotten on a Carnamah farm until Bindoon resident Dave Barker bought and restored it in 2008. Dave had also worked at Maylands as a fireman and could foresee the hidden beauty in this historic engine. He painstakingly breathed new life into the vehicle for show at Bindoon Museum. The vehicle is one of just three of its type in existence. Wander around the fire engine today and imagine firemen sounding the gleaming gold handbell as they hurtled down city streets to the rescue.
