Blowfly trap

John Gilchrist invented this fly trap to go in the outhouse (toilet). Chemicals were place in a container below the lid to attract the flies. When they flew through a small tunnel into the container, they were trapped. Gilchrist was born in Victoria in 1869 and arrived in Western Australia in the 1890s. He settled in Pingelly where he was well known as an avid inventor and manufacturer. Gilchrist invented items for the home and farm, such as a wood chip bath heater, animal feeders, a bag rammer and portable grain bin.
