This pretty nugget would have been a lucky find, and shows how gold and quartz (famed in the Marble Bar area) can be found together. In 1995 ‘George’, a keen prospector, found one of the largest nuggets recorded in the area. About the size of a small football it weighed 6.9 kilos. Whilst most of the gold seams have been mined, companies are now mining the tailings, and hobby prospectors continue to search for that shiny, illusive heavy metal to make their fortunes.
