SSJG Heritage Centre Broome

A social history of the Kimberley

The SSJG Heritage Centre’s award winning Relationships exhibition is housed in the 1926 Old Convent, one of three remaining Japanese ‘Shinkabe’ buildings. The engaging displays offer a unique window into the Kimberley’s settler past and the relationships between its Asian, Aboriginal and European people. Additionally, the 70,000 strong photographic collection is accessible digitally on site, to the public. Visitors are welcome to tour the original Foundation Site where the Sisters began their work in 1908, wander the paths into tranquil garden-rooms, and listen to captivating archival narratives on the three audio stations.
