At the time of Australia’s Federation in 1901, a decorative jardiniere, or plant pot, was a feature in many homes. This jardiniere was produced by Doulton & Co, the English china company, to commemorate the Australian Federation. A close look at the imagery will reveal the sentiment of the time, in which the Federation of Australian States will still look to England as the “Mother Land”.
