Albany Historical Society

Welcome to Historic Albany

Stories abound in this vast collection, and Patrick Taylor Cottage is the perfect setting to tell them. Built in 1832, it is the oldest dwelling in Western Australia, and is now cared for by the Albany Historical Society. Enjoy stepping back in time when you come here. As well as telling the story of Patrick Taylor, who arrived in Albany in 1834, it contains many treasures from Albany’s history. There are also items which will raise a smile. Look out for the special moustache cup designed to protect one’s moustache while drinking: a must-have in the days when luxuriant moustaches were a fashion statement!
