Mallet bark stripper

Mallet (Eucalyptus astringens) grows extensively throughout the South West region. The bark is high in tannins and was used in the tanning process, to treat animal skins and produce leather. There was a large mallet bark industry in Broomehill between the 1890s and 1970s and this mallet bark stripper dates from the late 1890s.
