Drive-in projector and display

Instrument

Warm summer evenings, the speaker crackling in the window, with pyjama-clad children falling asleep on the Holden HQ’s bench seat. These memories are conjured up by the projector from the Mayfair Drive-in. Opening in 1958 with capacity for 300 cars, the Mayfair Drive-in quickly expanded to accommodate 400. It closed in 1989, but that did not mean the end of life for this projector. It was taken to Manjimup where it continued to entertain until 1993. Now it is part of an interesting display about entertainment and leisure activities from the past. Today, the projector is accompanied by a display of entertaining footage of Bunbury in the 1960s.
