Apple Orchard Stencils and Boxes
Apples have been grown in the Donnybrook area since the early 1900s. Over the decades apples became a major export crop and at picking season, the farm’s packing shed was a hive of activity. Everyone had a set job to do in preparing the apples for local and overseas markets. The job of the junior was to mark the karri box with the orchardist’ name and the size of the apple by brushing black boot polish across the metal stencil. Brightly coloured paper labels were also pasted on the boxes which were shipped off to overseas markets
