The Agnes Hopes Quilt

Memorabilia

Resourcefulness and resilience were just two of the qualities needed by the group settlers to be able to create a life for themselves. When the Congregational Church needed new carpet, Mrs Agnes Hope of the Bramley Group Settlement came up with an excellent  idea: to charge local families to have their name embroidered onto a guilt, which was then auctioned. The result was that the Church got its new carpet, and a lasting record of the families in the community was created.
