Country Women's Association (CWA) Tea Towel
The CWA existed to help women in isolated rural communities, and to provide a voice to the Government to seek solutions to the difficulties facing families, particularly those in rural areas. The first branch in Western Australia was formed in 1927. The first branch in Northcliffe was formed in 1932, and more branches quickly followed. The Northcliffe branch was one of eight branches in the South West Division. Members met in each others’ homes until 1958 when the Northcliffe branch built its own premises. The final meeting of the local branch was held in 2004, after 72 years of bringing women together to strive to improve the situation for rural women and their families.
