Orient Line Award for Export Butter
This Orient Line Award for Export Butter was awarded to the Capel Dairy in 1960. This competition involved the judging of butter in both London and Perth, and was a highly sought after award. The production of butter was a major industry in the Capel area since the formation of the Capel Dairy Company in 1930. The Dairy collected cream from as far away as Manjimup, Yallingup and Kirup, and survived the market downturn in the Second World War, when other dairies in the South West went under. Over the following three decades, the dairy industry grew to become a major export earner for the Capel district.
