Corn dollies

Craft
A dying art

You would expect to find a corn dolly in a collection in Koorda, as it is part of the Shire’s emblem. These corn dollies were made by Frank Lodge as a wedding gift to Norman and Eva Braid. Corn dollies were made from a variety of cereal crops as good luck charms and to bless the harvest. Cereal crops grown before machine-harvesting had much longer stalks, making them easier to weave and braid. They are called dollies because the weavings were originally made to look like a doll.
