Pigs carrying sausages

Koorda sausage

These pigs, carrying sausages, were displayed prominently in the first butcher shop window on Railway Street in Koorda. Harold Heine was the first butcher in Koorda in 1922 and the meat was supplied by Drumin Farm. Koorda sausages became famous due to extensive advertising in the Sunday Times, although not many people knew that Mr James McCallum Smith owned the butcher shop, Drumin Farm and the Sunday Times! This humble 'snag' was so popular even a racehorse was named in its honour. Unbelievably, on April Fool’s day in 1934, Koorda Sausage won the Koorda Cup!
