Mapping Country

Lying at the heart of Martu Country is Karlamilyi, part of the Ruddall River National Park, one of the world’s largest inland rivers. Martu sister artists, Amy French and Lily Long Jatarr, grew up here in the desert and have collaborated to create a map of their Country in paint. Wild with colour and shapes, their map intricately weaves the Jukurrpa stories with the water sources, and the many places where bush resources can be found. Painting and telling the stories help keep the Country alive for the future generations of Martu.
